One gorgeous Friday morning recently, I set off for work in clothing rather too warm for the day’s blazing sunshine. I soon shed my scarf and jacket, but was loathe to realise I’d made a major summertime faux pas: I’d forgotten to – or, let’s be honest here, decided not to – shave my armpits for the best part of... This weekend the crème de la crème of Europe’s music scene (well…sort of) gather to represent their country with their talent (however questionable). Yes, that’s right it’s Eurovision. But with UKIP constantly in the news and the up and coming European elections it’s been praying heavily on my mind:
How much do we really want to be a part of Europe?

So last week I talked a bit about how to get your shit together when you have no idea what you’re doing with your life. But how about when you know EXACTLY what you want to do!?! You’d think that would be easier hey! But turns out finding the strength, motivation and courage to make your dreams a reality can be a... Read the rest of this post...

I coaxed my brother and sister out the other week with the promise of pizza and beer. We got onto the subject of the differences between Brits and Americans. In a massive generalisation, we agreed that Americans seem to carry a lot more confidence than Brits and we started to joke about how British people ‘push the feelings down’ before... Fair warning: we’re gonna get a bit deep here. I had every intention of reviewing Anchorman 2 this week, but it turns out that it’s complete and utter shit. Seriously! If you haven’t seen it, please, do yourself a favour and continue to avoid it. If you have seen it, I feel your pain. You can’t get those two hours... Read the rest of this post...

This weekend I had some friends round for dinner, and being my mother’s daughter I somewhat excessively overestimated just how much six people can eat. Never wanting to waste food I have several favourite uses for small quantities of left-overs, and this week I opted for a classic Vegetable Pie. Not only is this a great way to use up... While having coffee with a girlfriend the other day she confided that she was struggling to find focus in her life. And it was causing her real misery. Now she was the 5th person to mention this problem to me in the past month. And her story is one that has been cropping up a lot on aliljoy recently. One... Read the rest of this post...

I recently ruffled a few feathers that have cost me several friendships – friendships I don’t really expect to get back, and controversially, friendships I don’t really miss. You see, to me friendships are a two-way street. Of being both supportive for each other and making time for each other. A good friendship will last across continents and months of... After owning the book for over a decade, I finally read The Diary of Anne Frank in its entirety. I had picked it up and put it back down a couple of times before, getting to the point where Anne and her family moved into the Annexe, and I'm ashamed to say it took me until the age of 26 to finally read it all. In fact, it was only after reading this, that I discovered that Anne died from typhus in a concentration camp, just two weeks before the British troops arrived. That is unbelievably tragic.

It’s time for some comic relief this week, with This is the End. It’s easy to dismiss it as just another one of those stoner flicks from the guys behind Superbad and Pineapple Express but, trust me, it’s actually frickin’ hilarious! Written and directed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, and starring Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel and Craig... Read the rest of this post...
