The Big Two Five

friends-fingers

I’m currently sat with a raging hangover, still in my pyjamas and covered in bruises from last night’s birthday celebrations at the local roller disco (who’d have thought we’d be saying that in 2014?) In two days I’m 25. TWENTY FIVE. Quarter of a century, half way to fifty. A milestone I’ve been dreading for a long time. I’m one... Read the rest of this post...

Why ‘My Mad Fat Diary’ Is So Relatable

Rae-You-Cant-Spend-Your-Life-Afraid-450x370

(Warning this post contains spoilers.) I absolutely LOVE Channel Four’s ‘My Mad Fat Diary’. What’s the show about? In a nutshell it’s about a teenager called Rae who is growing up in the nineties. Rae is overweight and suffering from mental health issues. (Image via) Series one focuses on Rae finding new friendships after time away in a psychiatric unit.... Read the rest of this post...

The Reformation of the Pussy Cat

cat

The world has suddenly gone mad for moggies, with cats appearing in many big marketing initiatives in the past few months, leading me to question: Does this mean the crazy cat lady has suddenly been reformed? [Image via] Now, I have never been shy of putting pictures of my lovely little pussycat across social media sites and although my mobile... Read the rest of this post...

The A Word

Drugs are bad

What if I told you I had a terminal illness? That I only had a few months to live but there was a chance I could drop off at any moment. How would you react? I can hear the conversation in my head: two ladies sat over two cuppas in the local greasy spoon. “They say she only has a... Read the rest of this post...

What We Need to Teach Our Kids About Beauty…

blackboard

This week I was horrified to learn that Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington had had a nose job in a bid to quell the torrent of abuse she had suffered since stepping into the spotlight. I sat back, appalled and angered that a bright, intelligent, hard-working woman had felt the need to change her appearance to feel accepted. I, for... Read the rest of this post...

The Creative’s Struggle

1983_flashdance1

‘We are such stuff as dreams are made on…’ …declared Helen Mirren, calling upon the word’s of Shakespeare’s Prospero, as she addressed the audience at BAFTA 2014. As I sat in my living room in my pjs shoving popcorn into my mouth, flanked by my housemates, I realized that while the Royal Opera House was only 20 minutes away, we were a... Worry Lines

Dogs_Shar_Pei

If worrying gives you wrinkles, then by now I should look like one of those Shar Pei dogs. I would need a huge vat of anti-wrinkle cream. I am a massive worrier and some days I feel like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders. Sometimes it’s big things that worry me: global warming, flooding, the recession. Sometimes a small thing that happens can make me worry about a whole heap of other things. I know that worrying is a waste of time and completely unproductive, and I often tell other people this, but I find it difficult to take my own advice.

Valentine’s Day is Not an Excuse to Behave Like a Cat in Heat

SCOUT

This Valentines Day, I had planned an evening at home with the people that I love, but my evening soon went tits-up when we realised we couldn’t find the cat. We searched the house top to bottom, she wasn’t there. She had literally disappeared. We began searching the local streets for our little stray. Although we tried to keep calm...
