So, I’ve got a bit of a situation here, and I’ve no idea how it’ll turn out. I want my personal relationships to bring me happiness. I want to have a successful, fulfilling career. But it seems that wanting both simultaneously is just too much to ask. You can’t have it all. This whole situation would be so much easier... Read the rest of this post...

I’ve been employed full time (albeit in various places) for about 5 months now. After working full time in a bar all I wanted was to work 9-5, every week-day and have my evenings and weekends free. And don’t get me wrong – it’s good: I have two days to myself, to do whatever I want and I know all... Read the rest of this post...

Dinnertime at the Johnson household usually means being subjected to my mother’s fascination with back-to-back nightly news, and last weekend was no different. After getting bummed out about all the mayhem in the world, and realising that the news anchor was wearing hipster glasses, a story came on that got me thinking about my professional life.

While having coffee with a girlfriend the other day she confided that she was struggling to find focus in her life. And it was causing her real misery. Now she was the 5th person to mention this problem to me in the past month. And her story is one that has been cropping up a lot on aliljoy recently. One... Read the rest of this post...

Making a big decision to jack in the job and chase the dream is never an easy one. There is never going to be a good time to move away from family, friends and the long, hazy summers of beaches and festivals that Cornwall always promises. But last week I did just that – last week, I handed in my... Read the rest of this post...

Do you ever feel unsure of which career path you should follow? Do you ever worry about where you’re supposed to be heading? How you’re going to get there? So, we all know it’s tough out there for young people and graduates. Those first few steps out of university can be a massive anti-climax when there isn’t that dream job waiting at the end for you. Then there’s the realisation that all the work you put it doesn’t necessarily mean employable skills (but I can write 3,500 words on... Read the rest of this post...

Jenny Jones. Olympic medallist, XGames gold-medaller and all-round badass. She started at the bottom and has worked the ski-season slog in chalets, in a cardboard factory and as a doughnut seller to pay her way through training her bad-self to be as awesome as she is. There are a few things we can all learn from Jenny that don’t include... Read the rest of this post...
