If you’re looking for the ultimate girl power film, forget Spice World: The Movie, you need to see Whip It! Back in 2009, Drew Barrymore added directing to her already outstanding CV with Whip It (which she also co-starred in and produced!), a film about a high school girl who joins the world of roller derby. It’s a fun, fast and fearless... Read the rest of this post...

‘Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass… It’s about learning to dance in the rain’. When you’re in a storm in life, it’s easy for others to quote the above words of wisdom, I mean they’re beautiful, aren’t they? But while dancing in the rain sounds poetic when the waters are calm, it’s much easier said than done. This... Read the rest of this post...

A month ago I was walking down the street in North London when a guy crossed the road and groped my boob. I was with my female housemate, and he was in a group of four guys. I couldn’t quite believe it when it happened. I finally yelled ‘What the FUCK?’ as they walked away. Their response? Flinging their... Read the rest of this post...

Thursday morning, America lost one of its treasures. The voice of Maya Angelou has been the song of hope for so many women and men throughout a socially and economically turbulent century that saw changes no one thought possible. Now, at the end of her life, we all remember how one woman survived rape, teenage pregnancy, countless occupations, and constant... Read the rest of this post...

The other day I was sat on the bus on the way home from work with my iTunes on shuffle, having just finished another book. I was skipping through practically every song and figured my best bet for uninterrupted tunes was playing my Top 25 Most Played. And you know what was on there? In amongst practically every track from... Read the rest of this post...

Last weekend I survived a bit of an ordeal. I’d been invited to an academic event hosted and attended by various people I’ve admired from afar and never met before – the kind of people I quoted in my dissertation, whose plays I studied at university, and who might be the help and inspiration I need in my next life... Dawn O'Porter is one of the most fabulous women on the planet. You all should have seen her somewhere at least once before - presenting a TV show/documentary, writing columns for Glamour, raising awareness of breast cancer, on the arm of Chris O'Dowd... There's literally nothing this gal can't do. And that's why I was so excited to hear that she had written a young adult novel.

When I came across Enchanted, I originally planned on it being a 'background' movie but I found myself getting more and more drawn in. It's a film I've seen several times before - I saw it in the cinema and have since bought it on DVD - but it's one of those films that manages to hook you in without realising it, with its gorgeous gowns, catchy tunes and, of course, the dishy male leads.

It is with a little bit of sadness that I write this post, but last week I was dumped, simple as that and although I’m an avid fan of rom-coms and the empowering hails of Cher and Beyonce, I didn’t exactly follow the standard Bridget-esque routine (well, there was wine). After spending the day bonding over cats in Soho’s cat... Read the rest of this post...

Yesterday evening I was sat in my car, I won’t tell you the context of the situation, but I will tell you I was distressed. In fact the whole drive home was accompanied with a long and emotional monologue. ‘I’m trapped.’ I repeated to myself ‘I’m trapped and I don’t know what to do. I just don’t.’ We’ve all had...
