Dream. Believe. Do. REPEAT.

The other day I received a teeny tiny message in a bottle from one of my best friends. In it were the words: Dream. Believe. Do. Repeat.

Many people wonder: what’s the recipe for success? Good question!

I mean, whether it’s your personal health, career or relationships, what really makes a person successful at what they do?

How do you know you’re on the right tracks to reaching your goal? How do you know you are putting your energy in the right place? What am I doing right? You might ponder. OR,  you might be thinking: I HATE MY LIFE – WHY DOES NOTHING EVER GO MY GAWD DAMN WAY!?

From reading the work of great leaders and listening to their stories there is often a strategy which is repeated time and time again.

It goes a something like this:

Have a goal.

Work/train/study towards it with the belief you can succeed.

Try it out.

Repeat.

There are many variations but these four steps can help you pretty much succeed at anything and you can apply it to any part of your life which is work in progress.

I know what you’re thinking: sayyy whaaat!?

When explaining her mission for the Colour Conference, a global conference for women, Bobby Houston explained that every year since the event began their mission was simple:

Gather, equip, mobilize – REPEAT.

What started in a small room of about 20 or so ladies in Sydney has now grown into a world wide event with tens of thousands of women attending conference in packed out stadiums around the globe, including in Cape Town, London and Sydney.

We are what we repeatedly do

Why does it work?

Thinking isn’t enough. Dreaming isn’t enough.

If you want to write a smash hit movie script. Buy a house in Bermuda. Become a waterski champion. You have to first THINK IT. Then guess what, you have to do the GROUND WORK. And finally you TRY IT OUT.

It sounds simple, but it’s something many people fail to do.

They complain about their jobs and talk about a change of career but they fail to actually GET OFF THEIR ASS and do anything about it.

But there’s one more thing.

And it’s really important. In fact it’s the MOST important step but it’s one most people neglect. And it’s to repeat.

So many people dream, believe, do… and then, wait for it…

Give up!

They miss out the most important bit. REPEAT.

Successful people know that the repeat part, the carry on and improve part, is actually the key to success.

 Success is in the Repeat.

Why? Because when you dream, believe, do, repeat – you exercise one of the most basic yet fundamental laws of both science and life: the law of CAUSE AND EFFECT.

‘The law of cause and effect is absolute and undeviating.’
Dr. Venice J Bloodworth

As pointed out in her book Key to Yourself, Dr. Venice J Bloodworth explains that the laws of cause and effect are unfailing.

When you keep pursuing your goals, learning from your mistakes, improving and then carrying on – it’s only a matter of time before you begin to see fruits of your labour materialize. It’s not rocket science. It’s just truth that the inability to quit separates the pros from no-nos.

It is in the will to carry on with the ability to sharpen your tactics, improve your game, enhance your performance and smarten your know-how that brings real long term success.

Pushing yourself to the limits and driving forward despite failure – now that’s the key to success.

Walt Disney was rejected from 302 banks when he tried to get a loan to start Disney Land. Howard Schultz was turned down from 242 banks, but if he had given up there would be no Starbucks. Look at Andy Murrey and his failures before winning Wimbledon.

The success was in the repeat. Not giving up when faced with failure.

All the other stuff that encompass’ success like skill, natural talent, the ability to get on with people, a positive attitude and focused mind are all characteristics that encompass the what it takes to ‘Repeat’.

DREAM.BELIEVE.DO.REPEAT

So if you are feeling lame and shitty and like you want to give up your dreams and live in a cave of self pity because you don’t feel like you’re getting anywhere and you hate everyone – I want to give you a giant virtual bitch-slap. Hell no!

You better get up and put your training gear on. Because this isn’t your final round. You’re not out of the game yet. The only person stopping you being successful is yourself Lady/Dude.

The challenge is picking yourself up after it didn’t work out. The challenge is in the REPEAT. But guess what? The repeat is also where your strength lies: it’s the key to success.

So dream. Believe. Do. Repeat.

I dare you. After all…

‘All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them’
Walt Disney
