Thursday morning, America lost one of its treasures. The voice of Maya Angelou has been the song of hope for so many women and men throughout a socially and economically turbulent century that saw changes no one thought possible. Now, at the end of her life, we all remember how one woman survived rape, teenage pregnancy, countless occupations, and constant... Read the rest of this post...

Yesterday evening I was sat in my car, I won’t tell you the context of the situation, but I will tell you I was distressed. In fact the whole drive home was accompanied with a long and emotional monologue. ‘I’m trapped.’ I repeated to myself ‘I’m trapped and I don’t know what to do. I just don’t.’ We’ve all had... It’s that little flicker of happiness that you get in your (now Easter-enlarged) belly when a proclaimed selfie gets a Like on Facebook, a few more Likes later and you’re a little bit pleased with yourself, without being entirely sure why. Fuck yes I wore that lipstick well, thanks for agreeing! Oh this NEW dress proudly presents my lovely lady... Read the rest of this post...

It’s 11am on a crisp spring morning, and I am making my way through London’s East End to the creative studio of Root, to meet Creative Director and Svengali film producer, Martin Root. On my way, I can’t help but think how insanely surreal this is. I first stumbled across Svengali at last year’s Latitude Festival. A mere punter seeking shelter... Read the rest of this post...

About a year ago I was smoosing on Facebook, most likely procrastinating in exam time, when I came across a photo. The photo was of one of my friends. Flowers were aligned in a crescent shape on her head, her hair trailing behind her as she appeared to be cycling in the wind, her eyes were bright and her fair... Read the rest of this post...

We go about our daily lives with the world buzzing around us; and yet, we often take for granted how much can happen in a single day. Sometimes, particularly on a working day, life can feel a bit repetitive. ‘Am I getting anywhere or just repeating the same day?’ Whenever this question enters my head, I am most certainly taking for... Do you ever feel unsure of which career path you should follow? Do you ever worry about where you’re supposed to be heading? How you’re going to get there? A close friend of mine introduced The Fog to me a few weeks ago. I had gone through a significant amount of job stress and she was patiently attempting to raise... Read the rest of this post...

Back in the day Whitney proudly sang about her belief in the children of the future. Although this hit song can more commonly be found amongst drag queens repertoires and hen night playlists, I think that its message is one that I am greatly dependent upon. In the past few weeks, I have been somewhat ashamed by those of my... Read the rest of this post...

I feel like I ‘ve been told so many times to be happy, to embrace life, that I’m beautiful - well you know what sometimes I’m just not. And you know what- after I started acknowledging that I felt a relief. It wasn’t ‘happiness’: This isn’t me saying that everything was better because it wasn’t, it was still shit - but I got on with it. Feel every emotion. We can’t be happy all the time because if we were - well, what would there be to write about?
