Sometimes We Just Need To Shake It Off, Taylor Swift Style

It’s been a tough couple of weeks –  I’m incredibly homesick (something my nomadic mindset found very hard to deal with!), the weather has been so vile and I work so many hours that my nature-lovingmountain-climbing self has been bound by four walls for what seems like eternity.

There have been tears, lots of tears, and there has been a significant amount of time that my body has been so confused by the time of day (y’know, ’cause it hasn’t seen natural daylight in a long time) that, if it was Lent, I could say that what I’m giving up for 40 sweet days is sleep.

It’s safe to say I’ve been in a bit of a funk. Until late one night when I was hitting the keyboard, desperately trying to make my deadlines whilst my sleep-deprived brain was still (kind of) making sense, I stood up and stretched on my way to put the kettle on when Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake it Off’ came on my shuffle.

And you know what?! That’s what I did.

I danced around my flat like no-one was watching and shook it off, like I’d been drinking all night with my favourite girls in our local dive-bar and grooving like we were the hottest things in the place.

I finally felt revived, alive, refreshed – not like I was in a living nightmare.

But it wasn’t just the dancing around like a loon in my PJs that made everything a little bit better again. I mean, TS does have a point. No matter what people throw at you, exes, gossips, employers, you can shake that shit off with the right attitude.

Because, well, you’re fabulous. Just as you are.

If there’s one piece of advice I can give you guys and gals it’s this: if you’ve had a bad week, a bad Monday or even a bad f-ing year, stick those headphones in or turn those speakers up and dance like nobody’s watching to Taylor.

I promise that it will brighten your day.

And hey, you’ll look like this while you’re at it…
